Day Care--Choosing A Good Center. (English, Spanish). A list of important questions to ask. From the American Academy of Family Physicians.
National Center for Children in Poverty.
National Coalition for Campus Children's Centers. Represents the interests of the 2100+ campus child care centers in the US. Believes that high-quality, standard-setting "campus child care should be provided as an integral part of higher education systems." Publishes a free fact sheet on how to start a center.

Working Mother Magazine. (US-oriented.) Never mind that the title is a misnomer, because, as the old bumpersticker said, Every Mother is a Working Mother. But if you're a mother in the paid workforce, this magazine offers a lot of practical, voice-of-experience tips on taking care of yourself, your family, and your career. Publishes the annual Best Companies for Multicultural Women and the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.
Women at Work. (English, Hebrew.) Information and advocacy for and by Israeli women on single motherhood, paid-workforce mothers in general, sexual harassment, and pregnancy discrimination. From the Israel Women's Network.
Work/Life: US Office of Personnel Management. The US federal government's iniative to make its civilian workplaces friendlier for parents and other human beings. Materials on existing worker benefits; guidance for managers on improving work conditions.

Craigslist. Over 450 cities in 50 countries now have their own edition of Craigslist, the online bulletin board for free classified ads, including ads for job openings.

Idealist.org: Action Without Borders. (English, French, Spanish; expanding into additional languages.) A great global resource for learning about and finding socially conscious, socially beneficial jobs.
The ARTpreneur. Financial and career planning resource for people interested in or already in creative/artistic careers.
Tradeswomen Now and Tomorrow (TNT). US nonprofit that helps interested women to choose and enjoy good working conditions in the blue-collar trades like construction, which are considered "nontraditional" for women. Contrary to the stereotypes about blue-collar workers, these are careers that take skill and pride, and they tend to pay well.

Microcredit, Small Business, & Working at Home
The Abilities Fund. Nationwide (US) resource for disabled people, including disabled women, in or interested in self-employment. You may also wish to check out this list of Vocational Rehabilitation State Offices and Directory of Independent Living Centers and Statewide Independent Living Councils to see what employment/self-employment aid is available to you at the state or local level.
ACCION International. (English, Spanish, French.) A nonprofit started in 1961 by student volunteers in the favelas (slums) of Caracas, Venezuela, ACCION has offered small but critical loans (microcredit) and other vital services to millions of supposedly "unbankable" low-income small business owners throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States, Africa, and India.
FTC (Federal Trade Commission [US]) Consumer Alert: Work-At-Home Schemes. (English, Spanish.) It's possible to create and run your own business from your home. Sometimes it's even possible to do good, legitimate work for another employer in your home. But it's important to learn how to recognize and avoid the scams.
Grameen Bank. Bangladesh-based winner of the Nobel Peace Prize with its founder Muhammed Yunus. Most famed for its microloan/microfinance programs, especially for women who want to start small businesses.
US Small Business Administration. (English, Spanish.) Has tools for planning the start and operation of a small business; offers grant, loans, and other help.
Microfinance Gateway. (English, French.) Among many other uses for this website, you can use it to identify providers of microloans in your own country. Just click on "Organizations" to search by country.

Clearinghouse on International Developments in Child, Youth and Family Policies at Columbia University. Lucidly presents credible data to compare "industrialized" nations in these areas. Very interesting to check this information against The Incidence of Abortion Worldwide (has chart of abortion rates by country) and Abortion Policies: A Global Review (has country-by-country profiles). Herein may be, for example, some clues why the US has four times the abortion rate of the Netherlands!
International Labor Organization. (English, Spanish, French.) United Nations agency "devoted to advancing opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Its main aims are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue in handling work-related issues."
International Trade Union Confederation. (English, Spanish, French, German.) Trade unions have a long history as frontline fighters for the rights of workers. In the rapidly globalizing world economy, the fight continues, and intensifies.
Living Wage Resource Center [US]. From ACORN, the national nonprofit campaign for the rights of low-income and poor people. See also Economic Policy Institute [US] Issue Guide: Living Wage and Center for Popular Economics.
MomsRising. Grassroots coalition calling for the USA to really value motherhood and family, through public commitment to maternity/paternity leave, open/flexible work arrangements, afterschool care, children's health care, child care, & gender-equal, living wages.
Take Back Your Time. "Major U.S./Canadian initiative to challenge the epidemic of overwork, over-scheduling and time famine that now threatens our health, our families and relationships, our communities and our environment." Individuals and organizations are invited to publicly endorse its public policy agenda for humanizing the workplace.

Women Working Worldwide. "A UK based organisation which works with an international network of women workers. We focus on supporting the rights of women working in international production chains which supply the UK and other European countries with consumer goods such as food and clothing."
